Café Jericó is the coming together of local Colombian farmers and compassionate travellers to brew great taste from the seeds of a great dream.
With the passion of local farmers, the adventurous heart of a traveller, and a conversation between friends, a dream unfolded, a dream of bringing dignity back to the enduring hands of the Colombian farmers who harvest the coffee in the magical south-west mountains of Antioquia. Surrender to the richness of the flavor and a special moment arises.
Inspired by a single Colombian farmer and his son, we started Café Jericó to provide local coffee farmers a fair price for their heart-filled hard work. Our dream of Café Jericó began back when we were only trying to match our colourful hostel, Las Cometas, to the colourful town of Jericó. Inspiration struck us one day when we visited a local farm owned by a farmer named Diego and his son Ariel. The father and son team started their farm over thirty years ago. Amazed by the stunning landscape, the arduous labour of the coffee process, and the kind hearts of the farmers themselves, we saw the potential to share their richness with others.
It started first with offering travellers to Jericó a guided tour of Diego and Ariel’s coffee farm and the coffee process. This brought the coffee loving travellers to the hidden gem that is Jericó and provided extra profit to the tireless farmers. Next came the idea to share not only the farmers’ story but the flavor of their coffee as well. We started serving every guest at Las Cometas Hostel a cup of Ariel and Diego’s coffee every morning. Travellers were thrilled with the locally farmed coffee of the surrounding mountains and wanted to bring the rich authentic flavor back to their home countries and thus the coffee brand of Café Jericó was born.
Diego and Ariel inspired this project that is now partnered with five local coffee farms in the region and we’ve even brought in the help of a world class coffee roaster. Café Jericó would not have its rich authentic flavor without the support and hard work of our local farmers and also travelling volunteers. Thanks to our Café Jericó family, we are bringing the genuine flavor of Colombia to international coffee lovers while providing the coffee farmers with a proper pay for the passion they put into their work. Our dream is to sell Café Jericó in cafés, restaurants, and shops all around the world so that farmers in the green south-west mountains of Antiquoia can farm their coffee with dignity and pride.
