Ariel – Ariel has lived on Cascada Arcoiris farm in Jericó all his life. He has taken over the coffee farm from his parents a few years ago. Now, Ariel is the main farmer, who grows our coffee. Every day, he is picking the beans; maintaining the soil; planted more coffee; and washing, drying or packing the beans into sacks.
Diego – Diego bought the coffee land with his wife 30 years ago, where he built the farm and house. He still lives here with his wife and son. Even though, he has passed the coffee farm on to his son, he still goes out most days to pick the coffee.
John – John is the threshing and roasting man. On his beautiful coffee farm and eco-house just outside the town of Jericó, he has his machinery. He threshes the coffee and classifies it into different sizes and quality. Then he roasts each batch separately to get an even roast with the perfect amount of heat and air. He cup tests before, during and after the process to ensure the highest quality and that it meets his expert standards. During the day, you will either see him roasting, threshing or taking tours around his farm.
Leroy – Leroy is our expert roaster from New Zealand, who came to Colombia in 2017 to find out more about where the coffee is grown and the process before roasting. He visited many coffee farms in the Antioquian region, where he test cupped different varieties of coffee. Leroy became part of Café Jericó by designing the perfect roast for our coffee to get the best flavours and taste.
Jorge and Jessica – Jorge and Jessica own Las Cometas Hostel in Jericó, where they first created and developed Café Jericó coffee with the help from the farmers and other volunteers. The brand first started to give the dignity back to farmers and pay them a farm wage for their hard work. Now, they buy the pergamino coffee from the farmer and take it to John to thresh and roast. After, they package the coffee in bags, ready to be distributed and used in the hostel.
Their dream is to sell the coffee both nationally in Colombia and internationally, and to have enough demand to buy all of the farmer’s coffee so that they can be paid the wage they deserve. Also, they would like to develop different types of coffee.
Volunteers – From all over the world, volunteers come to support us. They use their talents and knowledge to make Café Jericó into a great success.
